Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0510232A1] The gas-discharge switch for a low-pressure gas discharge contains at least two main electrodes. The distance d between the main electrodes and the pressure p of an operating gas are selected such that the starting voltage reduces as the product p x d increases. According to the invention, a hollow electrode (10) which is connected to a triggering-voltage source (17) is allocated to the discharge path (8). This hollow electrode (10) is connected to the anode (3) via an anode resistor RA. The hollow electrode (10) can preferably also be connected to the cathode (2), via a resistor RK. This design of the starting device results in pre-ionisation within the hollow electrode (10), and corresponding simplification of the starting device. <IMAGE>
