Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0510315A1] To prepare an isotropic coal tar pitch having a reduced carcinogen content, coal tar pitch is distilled in an evaporator having a specific evaporator surface area of 330 to 10,000 m<2>/m<3> in a temperature range from 300 to 380 DEG C at a pressure of not more than 1 mbar and a mean residence time of 2 to 10 minutes. The resulting isotropic pitch contains less than 50 ppm of benzo-a-pyrene. The pitch is suitable, if appropriate after the addition of oils low in benzo-a-pyrene, resins or other modifying agents, as a binder and impregnating agent and also as a building protection and paint.
