[origin: EP0513501A1] The device has a first conveyor for feeding bottles (10) in the conveying direction (F) as far as a back-up stop (32). On both sides of the first conveyor, and in each case at a distance therefrom, a first test section (A) and a second test section (B) which is separated from the first are provided with a first and respectively a second transport device (20a, 20b) which is actuated by a clock. A transfer device (18) transfers two bottles (10), which are successively fed to it, simultaneously to the first and respectively second transport device (20a, 20b). The two transport devices (20a, 20b) are moved on synchronously by clocks in each case by one bottle space. In an interruption of the transport, codes are applied to the bottles by means of lasers (40a, 40b) whilst the said bottles are rotated in each case about their longitudinal axis. By means of a charging device 28, in each case two bottles (10) which have simultaneously been processed are simultaneously passed on from the test sections (A, B) to a second conveyor for the bottles to be conveyed away together. By using the two parallel test sections (A, B) it is possible to process twice the number of bottles (10) per time unit with the same conveying speed in the conveying direction (F). <IMAGE>
