[origin: EP0514924A1] A contact screw (10) for making contact with insulated electrical cable conductors in a terminal has a central shank (12) with an external thread (14), a screwing-in part (16) at the front end of the contact screw (10) with milled slots (42), and a contact piece (28) as well as an engagement part (36) for the attachment of a tool. The screw body is provided with an annular groove (20) which goes all the way round in the circumferential direction and forms a transition region (26) of reduced diameter between the shank (12) and the screwing-in part (16). The shank (12) has an axially running internal hole (34) which extends to a point close to the transition region (26) and whose internal diameter is at least as large as the external diameter of the transition region (26). If a predetermined friction resistance is exceeded, the screwing-in part (16) tears off and is pressed against the conductor with which contact is to be made, by the shank (12), with a predetermined contact pressure. <IMAGE>
