[origin: EP0515785A1] In the case of fan cowls fixed to the radiator and fan drives fixed to the engine, there arises the problem that relative movements occur between the fan and the cowl and these have to be compensated by suitable structural measures. It is proposed here to arrange a so-called motion-compensating device (11), which absorbs the relative movements mentioned, between the fan (3), which rotates in a cowl (2) fixed to the radiator, or between the fan clutch (5) and the engine. The motion-compensating device (11) can preferably be designed as a deformable rubber element, e.g. in the form of a bellows, or, alternatively, can be formed by deformable mechanical spring elements. On the one hand, this motion-compensating device (11) makes possible exact mounting of the fan (3) within the cowl (2), with a small gap, and, on the other hand, the inevitable relative movements between the engine and the fan (1) are compensated in a small space. This fan drive is preferably used for cooling the engine in motor vehicles.
