[origin: EP0515870A1] An air filter cartridge for the treatment of respiratory air with a chemical as the filling, the housing wall of which consists at least partially of an expandable, elastic material, is to be improved in such a way that the expansion can be increased in a controlled manner before filling with the chemical in order to achieve a reproducible contraction force of the expanded housing and to lengthen the shelf life of the cartridge. For this purpose, it is provided that one of the connections (2) be connectable to a pressure joint (7) through which a compressed gas can be introduced into the housing designed as a foil bag (1, 1') in order to expand the latter to a predetermined volume. The chemical (5) is filled from a filling chamber (3) into the pressurised, expanded foil bag (1). After releasing the internal pressure to the environment, the foil bag surrounds the introduced filling tightly on all sides. <IMAGE>
