The high-pressure discharge lamp (1) having a metal-halide filling has a rotationally symmetrical discharge vessel (2) with an inner wall which corresponds to the outline surface of a circular cylinder in the central region (11) and to the outline surface of a straight circular cone in the transition region (12, 13) to the respective vessel shaft (3, 4). The transition angle on the inner wall from the circular-cylindrical central region (11) to the respective conical transition region (12, 13) is between 120 and 160 DEG . As a result of this design of the inner wall of the discharge vessel (2), a reduction in the sound emissions in the discharge vessel (2) is achieved when operating the lamp (1) using a low-frequency rectangular-waveform current in the band between 50 Hz and 1 kHz. <IMAGE>

Die Hochdruckentladungslampe (1) mit einer Metallhalogenidfüllung besitzt ein rotationssymmetrisches Entladungsgefäß (2) mit einer Innenwand, die im Mittelbereich (11) der Mantelfläche eines Kreiszylinders und im Übergangsbereich (12, 13) zum jeweiligen Gefäßschaft (3, 4) der Mantelfläche eines geraden Kreiskegels entspricht. Der Übergangswinkel an der Innenwand vom kreiszylindrischen Mittelbereich (11) zum jeweiligen kegelförmigen Übergangsbereich (12, 13) liegt zwischen 120 und 160°. Durch diese Gestaltung der Innenwand des Entladungsgefäßes (2) wird eine Reduzierung von Schallemissionen im Entladungsgefäß (2) bei Betrieb der Lampe (1) mit einem niederfrequenten Rechteckstrom im Bereich zwischen 50 Hz und 1 kHz erreicht. <IMAGE>
