[origin: EP0517655A1] In contrast to conventional warping machines, the direction of rotation of the warping drum (2) during the warping is reversed. A deflecting roller (6) is arranged between the warping reed (7) and the warping drum (2), and the warping drum is rotated (a) in such a way that the warp section (3) is guided downwards via the deflecting roller (6) and reaches the run-on point (14) on the warping drum or on the lap (18) directly under the deflecting roller. By means of this arrangement, a very short warp-section distance and therefore an improved winding quality can be achieved. <IMAGE>
