[origin: EP0518249A2] A mask-frame combination for a colour cathode-ray tube has a mask frame (11) consisting of iron, and a mask (12) consisting of a material having a low coefficient of expansion, and it is constructed such that - the mask skirt (13) rests on the outside of the frame, - the welding points (15.1 - 15.12) on each of the long sides are positioned such that in each case one central welding point (15.12 or 15.6 respectively) is located essentially close to the centre of the long side, and in each side one outer welding point (15.11 and 15.1 or 15.5 and 15.7 respectively) is located on either side of the central welding point, at a distance of D/14 to D/9 therefrom, where D = frame diameter in the diagonals, - and the mask skirt has cut-outs (17) between the welding points, which cut-outs are at the said distances and adjacent to the outer welding points. As a result of this design, on the one hand the mask is so flexible that the length change differences during thermal production steps can be compensated for elastically, while on the other hand it has adequate stability with respect to mechanical forces. <IMAGE>
