[origin: EP0518280A1] A walking beam furnace for the heat treatment of piece goods, in particular metal sheets, which has a transport device for conveying the goods to be treated through the furnace, which device has two groups of longitudinal beams (1, 2) which alternately transport the goods stepwise. These longitudinal beams lie alternately at a spacing next to one another, there being provided under each beam a subconstruction (6) which supports it and is movable with it and which brings about the vertical movement and the horizontal movement in the longitudinal direction of the furnace of the longitudinal beam and of the comovable bottom part of the furnace, which is generally situated underneath the beam. Provided between each two adjacent subconstructions is a water gutter (8) which extends approximately over the entire furnace or oven length, is not movable with the subconstructions and in which immersion strips (9), which are arranged on the adjacent sub-constructions and movable with them, are immersed in order to seal the oven in a gastight manner at its bottom. The water gutters consist of individual longitudinal sections (10) which at their abutting front ends are of essentially flangeless design and are welded or cemented to one another. <IMAGE>
