[origin: WO9212936A1] A container (1) for biologically treating waste water is subdivided by a closed, vertically inclined partition (5) into an activation area (6) and a sedimentation area (7). The partition (5) ends with a vertical gap to the bottom (2) and with a lateral gap to the wall (2) of the container (1). A baffle plate thickener (10) with parallel, vertically inclined blades is arranged in the upper part of the container (1). The container (1) is provided with a downcomer (11) which extends over the height of the container (1) and which is linked to the sedimentation area (7) through openings (15) at various heights. Suction tubes (24) that project into the sedimentation area or a shaft (25) in the activation area (7) remove excess sludge.

On utilise pour épurer biologiquement des eaux une cuve (1) subdivisée par une cloison (5) fermée, inclinée par rapport à la verticale en une partie d'activation (6) et en une partie de sédimentation (7). La cloison (5) se termine avec un espacement vertical par rapport au fond (2) et avec un espacement latéral par rapport à la paroi (2) de la cuve (1). Un clarificateur (10) à tôles inclinées pourvu de lamelles parallèles inclinées par rapport à la verticale est monté dans la partie supérieure de la cuve (1). La cuve (1) est pourvue d'un couloir d'écoulement (11) qui s'étend sur toute la hauteur de la cuve (1) et qui est relié à la partie de sédimentation (7) par des passages débouchants (15) ménagés à plusieurs hauteurs du couloir. Des tuyaux d'aspiration (24) qui pénètrent dans la partie de sédimentation ou un couloir (25) agencé dans la partie d'activation (7) servent à éliminer les boues excédentaires.
