Abstract (en)

The present invention relates to a welding head permitting the measurement of welding parameters by virtue of means for viewing the welding area. This welding area (5) is illuminated by the arc and the electrode and it comprises in addition light spots (31A, 31B) projected by a laser source (32) through a nozzle (2). The area thus illuminated is imaged by picture-taking means (4) capable of determining the position of the said spots and to calculate therefrom the height of the welding head above the welding area, by a triangulation method. The picture-taking angle of the said picture-taking means can be modified so as to permit the detemination of several welding parameters. This welding head can be integrated into an automatic welding system. It can be applied to all high-technology industrial fields requiring automatic welding, such as the space, nuclear or aeronautical fields. <IMAGE>
