[origin: EP0521829A1] The breathing air apparatus has two filter units (3) arranged symmetrically so as to be mirror images of one another, a fan (11), a power supply unit with a casing (2), a connection piece (5) and a fastening device (6, 7) arranged at the rear. The fastening device (6, 7) is designed in such a way that the apparatus can be fastened to a waist belt in three different orientations. When carried on the back, the connection piece (5) points upwards, and when carried on the left or right, it points upwards at an inclination of approximately 45 DEG . The breathing air apparatus can be easily and reliably operated in all of the carrying modes, and in each case does not impede movement greatly, even when manual work is being performed. <IMAGE>
