[origin: EP0523794A1] Iron comprising a heating element (97), means (96) for controlling the heating of the heating element (97), and a motion detector. The motion detector may be an electrostatic detector (35) which determines a quantity of electrostatic charges present on the fabric. The motion detector may be a moisture detector (60) which determines a resistivity of the fabric between two terminals (62a, 62b) placed on it. A counting circuit (89) calculates a number of alternations of an electric signal provided by the one or the other detector and determines if the iron is or is not being used. Moreover, a measuring circuit (99) can determine the degree of moisture in the fabric. Application: iron. <IMAGE>
