[origin: EP0524052A1] The process of the invention involves feeding fibres to a card over a limited width of the latter, superposing the card web in at least ten layers, then needling the superposed layers. The superposition is preferably carried out by winding on a cylindrical drum. The non-woven structure according to the invention has a thickness which decreasses progressively towards its lateral selvedges. There is obtained a sliver which has an assymetric shape in cross-section by means of a longitudinal disecting cut, for example along the mid-axis (16), and, if appropriate, two longitudinal cuts along the selvedges. <IMAGE>
