Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9214297A1] A reluctance-type electric motor capable of running at a high speed and producing a large output torque includes transistors (20a to 20f) connected to both ends of excitation coils (39a to 39c) of each of the phases, a current control circuit for energizing the excitation coils sequentially in response to a position detection signal that represents the rotor position detected by a position detection element, and diodes (21a to 21f) that connect the excitation coils to the capacitors (47a to 47c). When the flow of current to an excitation coil is discontinued, the associated capacitor is charged by the magnetic energy stored in the coil whereby the magnetic energy decreases rapidly, while the next coil is rapidly energized with the current from its associated capacitor that has been charged. The position detection element is secured to a predetermined position on an armature, and the current starts flowing into the excitation coil within a section of an electric angle of 30 from a point at which a salient pole begins to face the magnetic pole.
