[origin: WO9116549A1] A telescopic triplan universal joint having an inner joint member (34) and an outer joint member (32). The outer joint member (32) has three longitudinal chambers (36) equally spaced about an axis of rotation. Each chamber (36) has a pair of face-to-face longitudinal guideways (40). The inner joint member (34) has three trunnions (52) which radially extend into the three longitudinal chambers (36). Each longitudinal guideway (40) is rollingly engaged by a planar roller bearing (56) which is movable therealong. A movable race (54) is disposed between each planar roller bearing (56) and the trunnion (52) extending into its associated chamber. The movable race (54) has a flat surface (62) engaging the planar roller bearing (56), a concave trunnion seat (64) mating with the spherical surface of the trunnion (52), and a pair of transverse stop abutments (66) which limit the longitudinal displacement of the planar roller bearing (56) along the guideways (40) relative to the movable race (54).
