Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0525613A1] The cartridge (23) is composed of a plastic sleeve body (16) and a plastic cover (20). A first retaining space (46) for retaining a firing charge (52) and a second retaining space (48) for retaining a propulsion charge (60) are accommodated in the sleeve body (16). A plastic firing pin (30), which is flexibly connected to the cover (20), is immersed in the first retaining space (46). If pressure is applied by means of an impact bolt (66) onto the rear end (40) of the firing pin (30), the latter is moved forwards into the first retaining space (46), its sharp front impact end (32) acting on the firing charge (52) in order to detonate said firing charge. The firing charge (52) is accommodated in the shape of a funnel in a conical depression (53) in the first retaining space (46). The impact end (32) of the firing pin, which is immersed in the firing charge (52), produces friction in the firing charge material, and hence friction heat therein. As a result of this 'broaching detonating principle', it is possible to achieve reliable detonation of the firing charge (52) despite the use of plastic, which is considerably softer than metal, as the material for the sleeve body (16) and for the firing pin (30). <IMAGE>
