Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0526845A2] A process for grinding or polishing plastic material or glass, in particular for grinding acrylic glass, is specified, in which a machine-driven grinding tool is moved over a working surface (44). The grinding is carried out dry, without liquid working medium, the grinding tool executing a circular movement or a movement oscillating about a fixed swivel axis at high frequency, the grinding dust being sucked away at the edges. The grinding tool has a closed grinding face with resiliently embedded abrasive elements, a plurality of abrasive elements preferably having a planar front face, which are bounded in a relatively sharp-edged fashion by side faces, and the majority of the front faces being orientated approximately parallel to the working surface (44). The process permits precision finishing of plastic and glass surfaces with particularly high surface quality. <IMAGE>
