[origin: WO9116512A1] The invention concerns a jointed-arm awning with a rotatably mounted roller for the awning cloth which can be wound out under tension for use and is attached at the bottom to a bar which descends with the awning cloth. The awning has only one jointed arm (6, 7) which is under tension, the joint linking the arm with the bar (4) being a device which generates a tensile force which maintains the joint under tension. Connected to the bar/arm joint (10) is an additional segment (11) which acts as the attachment and/or holder for one end of the device (14) generating the tensile force for this joint, this segment running substantially parallel to the bar (4) and being preferably an integral part of the bar.
