[origin: EP0528232A1] The invention relates to a dampening roller for dampening units in printing machines. The object is to develop a dampening roller which has a high capacity to be soaked with water or dampening medium, the intention being to reduce (< 6%) dampening medium additives such as alcohol or to dispense with them completely. This object is achieved in that the basic body (1) of the roller bears a layer of enamel, glass or glass ceramic (3). The respective layer (3) can be achieved, for example, by enamel-coating, bonding or plasma spraying. A further design results from the fact that the coating (3) is constructed as a self-supporting roller body which is received only by roller journals (5). <IMAGE>
