[origin: EP0528372A1] A material band 1 coated with a liquid layer 2 runs through a dryer 13, in which guide elements 14 are arranged at a spacing from one another. The guide elements 14 have air-permeable or gas-permeable guide surfaces 9 facing the material band 1 and are acted upon with overpressure with air or gas via a common supply line 17 and inlet ducts 5 in each guide element. The guide air 10 or gas emerging from the guide surfaces forms an air or gas film of less than 1 mm thickness which guides the material band 1 in a troublefree manner and without any impairment of the blowing-sensitive liquid layer 2 and makes it slide over the guide elements 14.
