[origin: WO9116513A1] A hand-rail (3) for use in ships, buildings, etc., which, in order to give an indication of direction to persons who are in the ships or buildings, is designed with an indentation or structure (4) with a direction-orientated pattern in the hand-rail's (3) longitudinal direction. By following this direction orientation, it will be possible to find the way to exits or specific locations. A description is also given of possibilities for reversing the hand-rail's guiding direction.

Une main courante (3) utilisée dans des bateaux, des bâtiments etc., et qui, pour indiquer une certaine direction aux personnes qui sont sur les bateaux ou dans les bâtiments, est dotée d'une entaille ou d'une structure (4) comportant une configuration indicative de direction dans le sens longitudinal de la main courante (3). En suivant cette indication de direction, il est possible de s'orienter vers les sorties ou des endroits spécifiques. On décrit aussi des possibilités d'inverser le sens de direction indiqué par la main courante.
