[origin: EP0529621A1] By means of the machine, fine-knitted tights, fine-knitted stockings and socks are automatically checked for defects in the test apparatus before being packaged. The fabric is drawn onto draw-on legs (10, 11), between which a gusset stretcher (12) is provided. A lighting body (32) is provided in the latter. Arranged in the region outside the gusset stretcher (12) is a camera (34, 35), the lens of which is directed towards the lighted part of the gusset stretcher (12) and which is connected to an image-processing device. After being drawn onto the draw-on legs (10, 11), the knitted fabric is tested by means of the cameras (34, 35). A brightness value is determined from the camera images. When a predetermined threshold of the brightness value is exceeded, a signal is generated. The knitted fabric just tested can then be sorted out as defective. <IMAGE>
