Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0530893A1] Metallic lead containing noble metals is smelted in an elongate reactor with two separate lead phases and a common slag phase. In the oxidation zone, the burden is charged on top of the slag phase, and the oxygen partial pressure is controlled by blowing in oxygen-containing gases into the lead phase in such a way that the primary lead is obtained in a small quantity and at high silver content. The slag with the high lead content flows into the reduction zone and is reduced by the introduction of reducing materials, a secondary lead of low silver content and a slag of low lead content being obtained. The primary lead and secondary lead are taken off separately.
