[origin: EP0532044A1] The burner (2) for producing the heat required for the thermal regeneration of particle filters (40) for diesel engine exhaust gases is characterised (a) in that it has a main combustion chamber (4), in the peripheral wall of which a fuel feed aperture (20) for a main fuel quantity and a combustion air feed aperture (22) for a main combustion air quantity are provided; (b) in that a precombustion chamber (6) is attached to the combustion chamber base (10) of the main combustion chamber (4); (c) in that on the peripheral wall of the precombustion chamber (6) a projecting, hollow connection (26) is provided, in which an electrical ignition device (22) is arranged and which has a fuel feed aperture (34) for a basic quantity of fuel; and (d) in that in the peripheral wall of the precombustion chamber (6) a combustion air feed aperture (24) is provided for a basic quantity of combustion air. <IMAGE>
