Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0534245A1] To separate documents (14) having different degrees of rigidity from a stack, a separating roller (20) grips the top sheet of the stack in each case in a non-positive manner to push the said sheet against a slope (18) and to lift it from the stack on the said slope. The separating roller (20) is mounted so as to be freely movable in a plane parallel to the plane of the stack, so that it rolls a distance away from the slope (18) which depends on the rigidity of the document on the stack, until the front edge of the sheet can be deflected on the slope (18) for separating. The separating roller (20) is thereby automatically adjusted to the optimum distance from the slope (18) for the rigidity of the document in question. <IMAGE>
