[origin: EP0535498A2] Automatic chipped-ice maker with a cylindrical evaporator roller (1) which is supplied with refrigerant via a refrigerating machine and is driven rotationally, the chipped ice being obtained from the casing surface (6) of the evaporator roller (1) via a scraping-off device (7, 8). According to the invention, when the refrigerating machine is switched off, a continued rotation of the evaporator roller (1) is brought about so that no unilateral or undesirably thick ice layer can arise on the casing surface (6) of the evaporator roller (1) as a result of the residual cold present in the evaporator roller. <IMAGE>
