Metal and metal alloy powders comprising microcrystalline, spherical and dense particles, and process and installation for preparing same. Problems in chip production can be overcome by the use of powders according to the invention. The powders according to the invention are characterised by a mean particle diameter of between 0.1 mu m and less than 5 mu m and a grain spectrum within 0.01 mu m and 25 mu m. The process comprises the conversion of a non-spherical metal powder or metal alloy powder into a powder cloud, treatment thereof in an oven at a temperature above the melting point and separation of the powder consisting of spherical particles from the cooled powder cloud. The installation for preparing the powders comprises a device (1) (consisting of (2) to (7)), an oven (8), whose pipe (9) is provided with heating devices (10) and cooling devices (11), and a recovery chamber (13). <IMAGE>

Metall- und Metallegierungspulver in Form von mikrokristallinen, kugelförmigen und dichten Teilchen, sowie Verfahren und Vorrichtung zu ihrer Herstellung. Probleme bei der Chipherstellung lassen sich durch Verwendung erfindungsgemäßer Pulver beheben. Die erfindungsgemäßen Pulver sind durch einen mittleren Teilchendurchmesser zwischen 0,1 µm und weniger als 5 µm und ein Kornspektrum innerhalb 0,01 µm und 25 µm gekennzeichnet. Das Verfahren umfaßt das Überführen eines nicht-sphärischen Metall- oder Metallegierungspulvers in eine Pulverwolke, Behandlung derselben in einem Ofen bei einer Temperatur oberhalb des Schmelzpunkts und Abtrennung des Pulvers aus kugelförmigen Teilchen aus der abgekühlten Pulverwolke. Die Vorrichtung zur Herstellung der Pulver umfaßt eine Vorrichtung (1) (bestehend aus (2) bis (7)), einen Ofen (8), dessen Rohr (9) mit Heizvorrichtungen (10) und Kühlvorrichtungen (11) versehen ist, und eine Rückgewinnungskammer (13). <IMAGE>
