The invention relates to a system (10) for the automatic loading of a piece of ammunition (3) into the barrel (5) of a gun (6), especially the gun of a tank, which comprises a conveying unit (11) supporting a cradle (15), on which a piece of ammunition (3) extracted from the magazine (2) is deposited, means for displacing the conveying unit (11) so as to align the piece of ammunition (3) along the axis of the barrel (5) of the gun (6), a first drive device (20) for displacing the cradle (15) axially in relation to the conveying unit (11), so as to bring the piece of ammunition (3) into the vicinity of the entrance of the barrel (5) of the gun (6), and a second drive device (25) for displacing the piece of ammunition (3) axially in relation to the cradle (15) in order to engage it into the barrel (5). <IMAGE>
