[origin: EP0538968A1] An electronically controlled switching relay is proposed which comprises a measuring circuit, a control circuit, a device for setting a preselectable value of a measured variable, which has a potentiometer and a display element dependent on the potentiometer, and a display device which is provided with a scale and a moving pointer. The control circuit converts the analog setting signal, output by the potentiometer, of the preselectable value of the measured variable via an A/D converter into a digital signal, and compares an instantaneous value, prescribed by the measuring circuit, of the measured variable with the set preselectable value and outputs a signal in the event of equality. The display device has a plurality of radiation sources which are in each case driven by the control circuit as a function of the instantaneous value in such a way that they simulate a moving pointer. <IMAGE>
