[origin: EP0539708A2] This receiver is equipped with a decoder for decoding traffic messages received digitally encoded. In a memory in the broadcast receiver, the broadcast transmitters which can be received in a relatively large region such as, for example, Germany or Europe, are stored by frequency and type, as is the information about the smaller region in which these broadcast transmitters are situated. During a station search, all audible broadcast transmitters are detected and stored and compared with the table. From this, the relatively small region in which the broadcast receiver is located is determined. This determination takes place in such a manner that the usual broadcast reception is not disturbed, namely during traffic announcements, during the initiation of a station search by the user or during the monitoring of stored information on an audio medium. <IMAGE>
