Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0539763A2] Control systems are used as access control, with the aim of only allowing authorised persons to have access to certain buildings or rooms. The control systems comprise data carriers (transponders) which are carried by the relevant persons and are brought into the local vicinity of a reader so that the data of the data carrier can be wirelessly transmitted to the reader. The reader forwards the received authorisation data to a central evaluating unit where these authorisation data are checked. If the authorisation data correspond to the test data, the evaluating unit effects the release of a door so that the authorised person can enter a room. In the invention, only the data carrier is programmed with the customer-specific authorisation data whilst the associated readers themselves remain unprogrammed. Instead, they are programmed by the data carrier which, for this purpose, also includes, in addition to the authorisation data, corresponding control data which are also transmitted to the reader. This makes it possible to dispense with elaborate programming of the readers. <IMAGE>
