[origin: GB2260783A] The side electrode 18 of a spark plug is welded to the shell 10 of the plug and is then accurately positioned relative to the axis of the plug by bending the electrode between a mandrel 28 and an anvil 20. Between them, the mandrel and the anvil ensures the correct positioning of the free end of the electrode both in an axial direction and in a direction transverse to the axis. <IMAGE>
