[origin: EP0540959A1] The invention relates to a ceiling element for a fireproof false ceiling which has at least two panels (2, 3) which are parallel to each other, are arranged at a distance from each other and consist of flame-retardant or non-combustible material, in particular mineral-fibre material. Furthermore, profile strips (4, 5), serving as spacer and as connecting element and consisting of metal, are provided on two parallel panel edges (6, 7) and are situated with angled-off edge legs (14, 15) in grooves (16, 17) which are located in the panel edges (6, 7). The essence of the invention is that the profile strips (4, 5) from the groove (16) of the first, upper panel (2) through to, and including, the groove (17) of the second, lower panel (3), are arranged such that they are offset inwards with respect to the edge surfaces (13) of the panels (2, 3) and, towards the outside, are covered over their entire height by means of at least one covering strip (11) consisting of a flame-retardant or non-combustible material. <IMAGE>
