[origin: EP0541923A1] In an embroidering machine, there is a thread clamping and cutting device for the back thread or lower thread (10), a shuttle (3) being mounted displaceably in a shuttle guide (6), both a displaceable thread clamping device (16) and a cutting device (25) being provided. The cutting device (25) is constructed in the form of a cutting blade, the cutting edges being designed independently of the thread clamping device of the back thread or lower thread, and the thread clamping and cutting device being arranged in the region of the needle hole (15). Arranged in continuation of the cutting device is a clamping gap (17) of the thread clamping device (16), the thread which is previously clamped by the cutting device and subsequently cut off being gripped and fixed in the clamping gap (17) located behind it in the cutting direction. <IMAGE>
