[origin: EP0541990A1] The device comprises a reading head (17) for the reference marks (11, 12) printed on a band (tape) (10), which comprises a row (20) of separate photosensitive elements arranged, along an axis transverse to the progression of the band (tape) (10), in a plane situated above and parallel to this band (tape) (10), followed, in the same plane, by a linear video array (30) parallel to the row of photosensitive elements. The device further comprises a microproceser (50) intended to select the photosensitive element used as a function of the instantaneous lateral shift of the band (tape) and to control the reading operations of the linear video array (30).
