[origin: EP0542169A1] With a silencer for a screw compressor or the like, having an inlet for the compressed air which leaves the compressor, an adjoining flow channel and an outlet, a solution is to be provided with which sources of sound can be effectively damped in such a way that they fulfil the current environmental requirements relating to the generation of noise. This is achieved in that the flow channel (5) has between inlet and outlet at least one bent area (8 and 11) and, downstream of the bent area (8), at least one expansion chamber (10). <IMAGE>
