[origin: EP0542674A1] The workpiece (5) is machined on a grinding machine which has a holder (4) for the workpiece (5) and a grinding head (16) equipped with a grinding wheel (10). Said grinding head is pivotably mounted on a tool carriage (15) and, together with the latter, can be displaced with respect to the workpiece holder. The position of the points (A, D, F, N, P, V, W) located in the operating region of the machine is determined, the coordinates of these points are made into the basic data of the machining program of the machine, and the workpiece (5) is machined in accordance with these coordinates. This method permits measurements of the machine to be taken at any time and without difficulty and allows the machine to be converted, if appropriate, for producing different products. <IMAGE>
