[origin: EP0543042A1] In order to minimise the expenditure for adjusting the ram in a stuffing unit of a brush making machine, it is proposed initially to provide a supply of rams (14), each of which is provided with a stop (36) which, in all the rams, has the same spacing from the ram tip. The ram drive of the stuffing unit is also provided with a stop (38). With the initial adjustment to the type of brush to be made, this stop is adjusted to this type of brush giving due regard to the length of the ram (14) used. The stop (36) of the ram is brought to rest on the stop (38) of the ram drive. The ram (14) is then clamped in this position. On exchange of a damaged ram, a new ram is removed from the supply and inserted instead of the damaged ram. Renewed adjustment to the type of brush to be made is then not required. <IMAGE>
