[origin: WO9201366A1] This invention relates to the production of hybrids of cereal crops, particularly small grained cereals such as wheat and barley. In addition, the invention concerns new genetically altered plants, for use with this method. The plant line used in the production of hybrids, has a chromosome bearing a dominant male fertility restorer gene and a colour marker gene which confers a characteristic colouration on the progeny seed. The male sterile parental plant line is maintained by physically separating the progeny seeds by colour sorting.

Cette invention se rapporte à la production d'hybrides de cultures de céréales, particulièrement des céréales à petits grains comme le blé et l'orge. De plus, l'invention se rapporte à de nouvelles plantes à modification génétique, s'utilisant selon ce procédé. La lignée végétale utilisée dans la production d'hybrides possède un chromosome porteur d'un gène dominant de restauration de la fertilité mâle et un gène marqueur coloré donnant une coloration caractéristique à la semence engendrée. On maintient la lignée végétale parentale stérile mâle en séparant physiquement par triage de couleur les semences engendrées.
