[origin: EP0544105A1] The piston-type compressor is equipped with a linearly displaceable suction valve lamella which can be set, by means of a linear displacement, to a working position which overlaps the suction valve orifices (11) and clears the discharge valve orifices (13), and to an idling position which at least partially clears the suction valve orifices (11) and at least partially covers the discharge valve orifices (13). So as to reliably guide the suction valve lamella (9) in its displacement movement, there are provided thereon, on its two ends situated in the direction of movement, guide surfaces (17, 17') which are parallel to the displacement direction and are in sliding engagement with corresponding counterfaces on the valve plate (1) or of the parts connected thereto. For the purpose of displacing the suction valve lamella (9), piston drives (27) are provided whose axial alignments are parallel to the displacement direction and which are linked to the suction valve lamella (9) by means of pins (24). <IMAGE>
