[origin: EP0544931A1] The invention relates to a method for the continuous casting of metal ingots, in particular wide rectangular slabs of copper or a copper alloy, by pouring the melt into a densener lined with a high-temperature-resistant material. In order, in particular, to reduce the thermal resistance between the lining and the surface of the cooling body, a thin-walled lining plate is arranged on that surface of the densener which faces the molten metal, the said plate being held on the surface of the densener with the aid of a vacuum. The lining plate, which is made of graphite or boron nitride, preferably has a thickness of between 0.2 and 15 mm. To ensure secure fixing of the lining plate during the casting operation, a large number of suction holes and/or suction grooves are arranged on the surface of the densener.
