[origin: EP0545104A2] With a method for the continuous casting of slabs or ingots in a continuous casting installation with a soft reduction section which has rollers (2) that can be adjusted individually or as a segment relative to one another by means of hydraulic cylinders (5) and can be adjusted in infinitely variable fashion in their clear width (opening width) by means of spindles, in which the spindles (16) are moved in load-reduced fashion to a desired opening width, dynamic adjustment of the spacing or opening width even during casting, i.e. under load, is made possible, in particular with adaptation to the shifting of the soft reduction section due to changing casting parameters. The spindles can be supported on pressure cells (17) or be arranged between supports of the bottom yoke and plungers (18). <IMAGE>
