[origin: EP0545105A1] What is described is a device for tying a package (8) by means of a band (19) in a tying plane (5) extending in the conveying direction (4). The band-guide channel (7) has two portions (10, 13) which are located on opposite sides of the tying plane (5) and are each at such a large distance from the tying plane (5) that they do not impede the conveying movement of the package (8). The portions (10, 13) are connected to one another on opposite sides of the package (8) by means of further portions (9, 11 and 12) which pass through the tying plane (5). In a position rotated through 90 DEG , in which the tying plane (5) is parallel to the conveying plane (1), the arrangement can also work as a horizontal tying device. <IMAGE>
