In a method for testing a coin (1), measured values are picked up sequentially by an optical sensor (19) along a concentric circular path (2) lying on a main face of the coin (1) and are compared with a stored recognition pattern. The essential feature is that a relative angle of rotation between the coin and sensor is monitored, so that an exactly defined relative angular position can be assigned to each measured value. In a device for carrying out this method, the coin is clamped in a mounting. By means of a precision drive, a sensor is moved relative to the mounting along the circular path (2). <IMAGE>

Bei einem Verfahren zum Prüfen einer Münze (1) werden mit einem optischen Sensor (19) entlang einer auf einer Hauptfläche der Münze (1) liegenden konzentrischen Kreisbahn (2) sequentiell Messwerte aufgenommen und mit einem abgespeicherten Erkennungsmuster verglichen. Das wesentliche Merkmal liegt darin, dass ein relativer Rotationswinkel zwischen Münze und Sensor überwacht wird, so dass jedem Messwert eine exakt definierte relative Winkelposition zugeordnet werden kann. Bei einer Vorrichtung zur Durchführung dieses Verfahrens ist die Münze in einer Halterung eingespannt. Mit einem Präzisionsantrieb wird ein Sensor relativ zur Halterung entlang der Kreisbahn (2) bewegt. <IMAGE>
