[origin: EP0546766A2] The present invention relates to an introducer assembly (11) for introduction into a cavity of a patient having skin overlying the cavity and permitting the introduction of an instrument therethrough, and elongate tubular member (12) having a flow passage extending therethrough and having proximal (13) and distal (14) extremities, a flange (32) having top (47) and bottom (46) sides and having an inner margin (33) with an opening (34) therein through which the tubular member (12) extends with the proximal extremity (13) of the tubular member being disposed on the bottom side of the flange (32) and the tubular member (12) and permitting adjustment of the tubular member (12) longitudinally in said opening (34), a valve means (22) carried by the proximal extremity (13) of the tubular member (12) for inhibiting the flow of fluid through said flow passage from the distal extremity (14) to the proximal extremity (13) and permitting instruments to be inserted through the same while maintaining substantially fluid-tight seal and adhesive means (51) secured to the bottom side (46) of said flange (32) for engaging the skin of the patient for retaining the flange (32) in sealing engagement with the skin of the patient. <IMAGE>
