[origin: EP0546989A1] The static mixing element in a flow duct (7) has at least two guide faces (10) on the duct wall. In the interior, the guide faces are wider than on the duct wall, and they enclose an angle W of from 10 DEG to 45 DEG with respect to the main flow direction Z. They may have various orientations, and the projection FZ of the guide faces in the main flow direction may be from 5% to 30% of the duct cross section F. Thus efficient mixing is achieved in an extremely simple manner. <IMAGE>
