[origin: EP0547490A1] A book block (12) is connected at the spine (12a) of the book block to the cover spine (20) of a partially flexible cover (14) by a detachable and reconnectable adhesive layer (36, 38) which is arranged on the inside a reinforcing strip (32) which is fixedly bonded to the cover spine (20). The reinforced cover spine, in conjunction with the bonding of the book block spine, guarantees problem-free cutting of the pamphlet. When the book (10) is opened, the book block spine (12a) separates from the cover spine (20), so that the latter is not distorted but the book opens satisfactorily. The cover sheets (16, 18) are bonded to the first (26) and last (28) pages, respectively, of the book block (12) via double-sheet front and back endpapers (40, 42; 52, 54), as a result of which the first (26) and last (28) pages are not significantly subjected to tensile stress when the cover sheets (16, 18) are opened. <IMAGE>
