[origin: EP0547500A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for preparing the leading end of a replacement web roll (1) for flying roll exchange. The aim is to provide a process which can be mechanized with low outlay and in which the leading end of the web (3) is provided, in sections following one another transversely to the web direction, with two perforations (4, 5) and a bonding adhesive application (7) on the topside. The aim is also to provide a device of simple design. To this end the leading end of the web (3) is wound onto a wastepaper roll (2), is brought by means of the latter into a processing position for the aforementioned operational steps, a further perforation (5), located before the perforation (4) in the web travel direction, is there applied transversely to the web direction, the wastepaper roll (2) is guided for the purpose of placing the leading end (3) of the web against the replacement web roll (1) and subsequently, by a relative movement between the two, the web is separated at the last-mentioned perforation (5) and finally, at the earliest after each preparation cycle, the wound-on wastepaper (8) is removed. <IMAGE>
